Cargo Container Home(s)

I was wondering about maybe building in northern territories... Bare land sans utilities maybe cheapish? Drilled in anchors and used cargo containers (CC) are cheapish. Used standard size CC for $2.5K. Tiny house made for $25K out of std CC. You can get "delux" tiny house for $40K here.

Or, do your own labor: buy (24) drilled in anchors w/ concrete ftgs + twist lock anchors for $10K total. Buy (4) used 8'x40'x8.5' CCs for $10K total. Buy (2) 8'x20'x8.5' CCs for $4K total. Add $3K to insulate bottoms of CCs with 0.5' polyiso foam board. Buy 60' long x 30' span 29 gage quonset steel bldg for $8K. Divide quonset into (2) 30' lengths. Center open space ~ 30'x69'x23.5' tall. Overall footprint size ~ 46'x85'. Place quonsets ~ centered atop inner edges of 40' CCs. (2) 40' CCs aligned (long ways) duplicated across open space. Close off ends of open space with 20' CCs plus buy (2) 5' wide x 8' tall entry doors $5K total (for both ends.) (2) 40' CCs long ways each side of center open space are separated by 5' in middle so (2) more 8' tall entry doors, for $2.5K total to close off between the 40' CCs.
Ea. end of quonset roofs place 46' long endwall truss, 12:12 slopes. Sheath trusses w/ 7/16" OSB w/2x blocking in-between 2x4 flat verts to follow shape of quonset (w/flashing fastened) and pre-side for $15K total. (2) more decorative outside trusses to accommodate diagonal square windows, prefinished w/wdws for $20K total. (48) 4'x8' prefab'd insul roof sandwich panels w/GWB interior placed in-between trusses for $24K. (6) of middle roof panels contain large skylights, add $6K. Frame interior of roof + outside walls of CCs w/ 2x4s@2'c/c, flat (3,200 sf). Provide 1" thick vacuum insulated panels (VIP) between these studs and between truss verts (634 sf) & finish interior w/ 1/2" GWB. For framing and GWB $10K total. The VIP have to be home-made. Working w/ tech ingredients on that. Just know it will take ~ 750 hours to make and install. So far ~ $113.5K... Note that floor surface of clear space has not been addressed. It is intended to be mostly interior garden/greenspace. Collected rainwater runoff from CC and quonset roofs run through interior fishponds and under gardens, supplemented by well water as rqd. Wading/swimming pools too. Each 2' arch section of quonset roof comprised of 5 pieces where dbl row 5/16" bolts occur in troughs to connect pieces together. Every other arch section replace one of these bolts with 3/8"x4" long bolt, nut & place 1" dia. split-ring hanger on bottom end of bolt. Grid of 3/4" pvc pipes will cover inside of quonset roofs, straight pipe connected to hangers and curved pipe to match quonset arc. Connect straight and curved pipes together using pvc cross tees, forming ~ 3.1' x 3' pattern. Roll out and cut off 4'x32' long pieces of 3-ply solid radiant barrier foil, attached and sealed to endwall trusses & CCs, and attached to pvc pipe grid with snap clamps. Stitch & tape seal horizontal joints. Hand fill, in between quonset roof and radiant barrier film, loose fill insulation. At top, provide screened air outlets @ 2' c/c and blow-in remaining loose fill insulation. Re-cover film with screened holes with solid layer film. Finishing CCs: If single family, long narrow rooms. CC walls made of 14 ga weathering steel and posts 7 ga tube steel but roof of CCs = 16 - 18 ga die-stamp corrugated steel sheets w/ limited load bearing. Loads distributed to ground by corner posts, not roof. Eventually need to cover CC roof with fully-adhered single ply roofing or spray-on silicone. Minimize penetrations.
CCs have plywood floor. Flooring can be anything, but cut openings for plumbing need pre-planning. Locate on inside wall w/GWB covered wood frmg for plumbing chase. Avoid cutting structural metal floor channels to extent practicable. Site prep for below CCs = 6 mil polyethylene film over undisturbed soil with sand or aggregate fill over. CCs bear on (2) 2'x8'x8" end ftgs connected via twistlocks. 2' wide x 2" thick XPS insul bd @ outside face of CCs. PPT 2x4 vert flush w/outside face of CCs protects insul bd & defines underfloor fill edge. . Where openings plasma cut in CCs for windows & doors, weld-in 7 ga tube steel frame surrounds. Seal between steel tubes & pvc window fins. Fasten from inside w/ tek-screws. Tops of window and door frames to fit under existing tube steel frames at CC roof. . If multi-family, CCs are individually owned pre-mfd tiny homes, but with larger community shared facilities available like kitchen/dining and restroom/showers. . If off-grid, two added roofed structures placed over quonset roofs in-between and supported by the previously described 46' endwall trusses. Between the top of the quonset roof and fitting half-way into the soffitted added roof structure are horizontal axis finned windmills - where the quonset roof shape funnels wind thru these horizontal windmills. (2) 30' trusses support each solar panel roof above the wind-funnel soffit assemblies. Windflow passes through two support trusses, but chicken-wire over trusses prevents accidental harm to birds. Windmill blades = colorful dacron fabric.
